ANTHONY UWAYA’S SCHOOL FOR THE POOR
In 2005, Bro. Anthony Uwaya arrived in Tanzania, to study Philosophy, during his studies; he visited a nearby village, close to his college and discovered that they were lots of children deprived from education in Tanzania, DUE TO LACK OF MONEY TO PAY FOR SCHOOL FEES. He was touched but he felt there was nothing he could do. He was very young about below 19years of age.
After this visit, Anthony visited his friends for his holiday in South Africa and United Kingdom, and volunteered with an orphanage home.
Then he returned to Tanzania and decided to start a school for the Poor, Orphans, and Abandoned Kids etc.
BROTHER ANTHONY UWAYA
Thinking on how he could start up something useful to help the poor kids
We are Christian brothers dedicated to the poor, and our first school and community was opened by Brother Anthony Uwaya, who has a strong missionary spirit and faith. We prohibit
discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, age, disability, religion, political belief, or national origin.
We strive to help the poor kids in local villages around us. We help them get good education; we do not presently accommodate children now for we have limited resources available.
We are still very new in our service and we have about 50 kids getting free education including free lunch at school. We accommodated a few kids whose parents had abandoned them.
We train kids in the way of the lord and quality education.
We accept no money in anyway from the kids
We are non profit making and we do not get grant from government.
Our founder Anthony Uwaya says “I DO NOT JUST WANT TO HELP POOR, BUT I ALSO WANT TO SHARE IN THEIR POVERTY”
We are just Christian Brothers who live in a small community ready to give Christian education to those who come to us.
We employed 2professional teachers and they are well paid by the brothers.
THE LIFE OF POVERTY IN OUR COMMUNITY AS BROTHERS
21. All the brothers and sisters zealously follow the humility and poverty of our Lord Jesus Christ, who though rich beyond measure (2Co 8:9) wanted chose poverty in this world with the most blessed Virgin, his mother, and he emptied himself (cf Ph 2:7).
Let them remember that we should not have anything of this world, except that, as the apostle says, having something to eat and something to wear, with these we are content (cf 1Tim 6:8). Let them particularly beware of money.
And let them be happy to live among the outcast and despised, among the poor, the weak, the sick, the lepers and the needy that ask help along the way.
22. The truly poor in spirit, following the example of the Lord, live in this world as pilgrims and strangers, without neither appropriate nor defend anything as their own.
This is the summit of most high poverty that makes us heirs and rulers of the kingdom of heaven. It made us materially poor, but glorious in virtues.
Let this poverty be our portion for it leads to the land of the living. Clinging completely to it let for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, never want possess perpetually anything else under heaven
Our Life and Activity
As creatures and children of God, happy to depend absolutely on him, the Brothers and Sisters who commit there self to this life as missionaries look through the prayer for his face and will, along with the forces to put it into practice.
The daily schedule of the community envisions at least 250 minutes of prayer, distributed between night and day to scan the rhythm of the daily life, leaving to each one the possibility to have further space of intimacy with the Father, by means of the Son, in the Holy Spirit.
The spiritual life brings forth the brotherly communion and activity: the time for the study, for work, for rest in a good balance.
The study is first of all addressed to the Word of God, which is the basis of initial and ongoing formation and does illuminate all the reality and the way to tackle it with wisdom.
The work includes the manual ones for the necessity of both the community and the poor, the human promotion (family consultory, kindergarten, computer classes, no cost school), and especially the holidays and two communal recreations during the day are the occasion to let the joy of being brothers and sisters to boom and to share faith and life in love.
