Concept Note on

Establishment of Orphanage /Life for Needy Children in Kapoeta town

Kapoeta orphanage was started in 2013 as a result of increased numbers of street children loitering in Kapoeta town. By 2013 the number of these children mainly boys was over 300. The Kapoeta local authorities tried many time to catch and take their parents in vain; after a month of so the same children return back to the streets.

The idea to start the orphanage was mooted after many attempts to take the children back failure to parents. It was in this process that the local authorities released that the children are actually orphans. When asked to explain their background most of the children said their parents have died during the war and as result their guardians and relatives failed to provide for them hence they decided to come to town to scavenge for food. Many told of suffering and hopelessness they faced immediately their parents died. Many told of many days they were made to cultivate and work in family farms without food. Many told of many night they slept hungery without food.
